Established in 1990, the British-American
Business Council Chicago (BABC Chicago) endeavors to broaden trade and commercial goodwill
between the United States and Great Britain--the largest economic partnership in the
world, including $460 billion in two-way investment and $74 billion annually in two-way
trade.
The Council provides American business people
and their sponsoring companies opportunities to cultivate valuable professional, social
and civic connections related to the growth of commerce between the Midwest and the U.K.
The Council provides British business people living and working in Chicago and the Midwest
and their companies with a forum for business connections, as well as a platform for
social camaraderie, where they can celebrate and express their British heritage.
Through diverse monthly events and programs,
the BABC Chicago welcomes members to hear prestigious speakers, expand their business
acumen through educational seminars, and enjoy an array of social activities that are both
festive and educational. The BABC Chicagos flagship events include the Annual
British Christmas Gala in December, the Annual Consul General Awards Dinner in March, and
the Traditional Ascot Day celebration at Arlington International Racecourse in June.
In addition, members receive Council news and events, trade briefs and information about
potential business opportunities. Other benefits include access to the online
membership database, marketing opportunities, Exchange Visitor Visa Program, occasion to
share their expertise with fellow members, and committee involvement.
The Council has a distinguished Board of Directors and proudly serves over 250 senior
level executive members, who are involved in commerce between the U.K. and the U.S.
The BABC Chicago also is part of the British American Business Council (BABC), the largest
transatlantic business network, consisting of 31 Councils and more than 4,000 companies in
major cities throughout North America and the United Kingdom. The International
Advisory Board of the BABC is an impressive list of chairmen and chief executives of
leading British and American corporations, as well as senior government officials.
The BABC Chicago is the 2003 and 2006 recipient of the Aon Award. The Aon
Award is awarded for the best membership growth on a year-over-year basis. Edwina Sandys,
the granddaughter of Winston Churchill, sculpted the Aon Award.
